Gearbox ZF 8HP50

The ZF 8HP50 8-speed automatic transmission has been assembled at a plant in Germany since 2014 and is installed on rear-wheel drive BMW models as the GA8HP50Z and all-wheel drive as the GA8HP50X. This gearbox is also installed on Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep under its own designation 850RE.

2nd generation of the 8HP family: 8HP50, 8HP65, 8HP75, 8HP95.

Disadvantages of the ZF 8HP50 gearbox

  • The main problem is clogging of the solenoids with friction wear products.
  • Due to dirt-clogged solenoids, oil pressure decreases and the gearbox begins to push.
  • If you do not pay attention to the vibrations of the automatic transmission, the oil pump bearing will break.
  • During aggressive driving, aluminum drums often fail and burst.
  • The weak point of the gearbox of this family is the bushings and rubber gaskets.
