The Aisin AW55-51LE 5-speed automatic transmission was produced at a plant in Japan from 2001 to 2011 and was installed in many popular General Motors crossovers under its own designation, the AF33. In other markets, this transmission is best known as the automatic transmission in the Chevrolet Captiva and Opel Antara.

Disadvantages of the Aisin AW55-51LE gearbox
- This is a reliable Japanese transmission, and it only caused problems in the first few years;
- However, this version began to be installed en masse in 2006, already in an updated version;
- With regular lubricant changes, its service life will easily exceed 300,000 km or more;
- For frugal owners, the valve body becomes clogged with wear debris from the torque converter clutch;
- Then, the oil pump bushing usually breaks, and noticeable oil leaks appear.
