The Chrysler 45RFE 4-speed automatic transmission was produced in the United States from 1998 to 2003 and was installed in rear- and all-wheel drive models with PowerTech 3.7 EKG and 4.7 EVA engines. In many markets, this transmission is known as the Jeep Cherokee (Liberty) automatic transmission.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Dodge Dakota 2 (DN) in 1999 – 2002;
- Dodge Durango 1 (DN) in 1999 – 2002;
- Dodge Ram 3 (DT) in 2001 – 2002;

- Jeep Grand Cherokee 2 (WJ) in 1998 – 2002.
Disadvantages of the Chrysler 45RFE gearbox
- This is a fairly durable transmission, and with frequent oil changes, it lasts up to 350,000 km;
- Dirty lubricant in the gearbox wears out the oil pump and its rubberized cover;
- Then the pressure drops, and the clutches in the Overdrive or Underdrive packages burn out;
- The first version of the solenoid block was not particularly reliable, but the second is better;
- Failures in the electronic transmission control system are also common.
