Disadvantages of the Mercedes 716.5 gearbox
- This is a fairly reliable manual transmission, but its service life is highly dependent on engine power;
- When combined with powerful units, the bearings may begin to hum even before 100,000 km;
- Other common problems with this transmission are related to the gear selection mechanism;
- Besides normal wear, the gear selector shaft drive pin often shears;
- Knocking noises in the gearbox may also appear due to a cracked plastic pendulum retainer.
