The Toyota A247E 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled at the Japanese plant from 1996 to 2009 and was installed on front-wheel drive models such as the Avensis, Ipsum, Caldina, Vista and RAV4. This gearbox was paired only with the 2.0-liter 3S-FE and 1AZ-FSE engines.

Disadvantages of the Toyota A247E gearbox
- All A-series automatics suffer from frequent broken wires in the solenoid coil;
- Otherwise these are fairly reliable gearboxes with a service life of over 300,000 km;
- Under overly aggressive driving the torque converter lockup clutch can wear out;
- This debris then clogs the valve body and the gearbox starts jerking when shifting;
- Shaft vibrations usually appear next, and they destroy the oil pump bushing;
- At high mileage the rear output shaft bearing can also wear out;
- The shaft then goes out of alignment, which destroys the third planetary gearset.
