The Toyota A341E 4-speed automatic transmission was built at the Japanese plant from 1987 to 2001 and was installed on rear-wheel drive passenger models such as the Chaser, Cresta, Mark II, Celsior and Soarer. There are two different versions of this gearbox: the standard AW30-41LE and the reinforced AW30-41LS.

Disadvantages of the Toyota A341E gearbox
- This is a fairly robust gearbox and the first failures appear only at high mileage;
- With overly active owners the torque converter lockup clutch wears out by 200,000 km;
- Its wear debris then clogs the valve body and the automatic starts jerking;
- Shaft vibrations appear next, and they destroy the oil pump bushing;
- Heavy leaks then begin, and the planetary gearset does not tolerate a drop in oil pressure.
