The Toyota A141E 4-speed automatic transmission was built at the company’s plant from 1984 to 1989 and was installed on the first-generation MR2, a mid-engine coupe popular on the Japanese market. The gearbox was paired both with the naturally aspirated 4A-GE engine and with the supercharged 4A-GZE unit.

- Toyota MR2 1 (W10) in 1984 – 1989.
Disadvantages of the Toyota A141E gearbox
- First of all, it is worth noting that this is a rare gearbox, and finding a donor unit will be a problem;
- But its reliability is excellent, and failures occur only at high mileage;
- As always, it all starts after critical wear of the torque converter lockup clutch;
- Then the valve body gets clogged with wear debris and the transmission begins to jerk badly;
- After that, vibrations destroy the oil pump bushing and oil leaks appear.
