The Toyota U140F 4-speed automatic transmission was built at the Japanese plant from 1997 to 2012 and was installed on all-wheel drive versions of such models as the Highlander, RAV4, Matrix and Caldina. On Lexus cars this gearbox is known under the index Aisin AW90-40LS.

Disadvantages of the Toyota U140F gearbox
- This gearbox is fitted to powerful all-wheel drive models and often comes in for repair;
- Under active driving the lockup clutch wear debris clogs the valve body solenoids;
- The Teflon rings also wear a groove in the rear cover of the gearbox fairly quickly;
- The oil pressure then drops, which greatly shortens the life of the planetary gear train;
- The weak points of this automatic transmission also include the temperamental Fujitsu control unit.
