Disadvantages of the Toyota A442F gearbox

  • This is a reliable but not very common automatic transmission, and donor units are hard to find;
  • Such gearboxes usually come in for repair badly worn, after more than 300,000 km;
  • A quality rebuild is not cheap and a workshop can be hard to find;
  • The set of gaskets and oil seals also needs replacing every 10–15 years of service;
  • After all, most of the failed gearboxes suffered from a low oil level.
