Disadvantages of the Toyota U241E gearbox
- The early gearboxes suffered from control unit glitches, but this was fixed quickly;
- Otherwise, with a calm owner these automatic transmissions easily cover 400,000 – 500,000 km;
- But under aggressive driving the lockup clutch can wear out by 200,000 – 250,000 km;
- Its wear debris then clogs the valve body and jerking appears when shifting;
- If you ignore this, the oil pump bushing will be destroyed and leaks will begin;
- After 300,000 km the Teflon rings often wear a groove in the rear cover of the gearbox;
- The oil pressure in the system then starts to drop and the clutch packs begin to burn.
