The Toyota U442E 4-speed automatic transmission was produced by the Japanese company from 2010 to 2022 and was installed on front-wheel drive models popular in Asia, such as the Vios, Yaris and Vitz. On numerous models from Chinese manufacturers this gearbox is known as the Aisin TS40-SN.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Toyota Etios 1 (AK10) in 2012 – 2021;
- Toyota Vios 3 (XP150) in 2013 – 2016;
- Toyota Vitz 3 (XP130) in 2010 – 2017;
- Toyota Yaris 3 (XP130) in 2011 – 2016.
Disadvantages of the Toyota U442E gearbox
- On Toyota models this gearbox was paired with engines up to 1.5 liters and caused little trouble;
- However, under active driving the main thrust bearing in the housing may not hold up;
- It develops play, and vibrations then simply destroy the planetary gearset;
- The U-series problem with worn rings in the rear cover is present here as well;
- The other problems of the gearbox are related to the solenoids being clogged with wear debris.
