The VW AL950 6-speed automatic transmission was produced by the concern from 2002 to 2012 and was installed on the VW Phaeton V10 TDI under the HDQ index or the Audi Q7 V12 TDI under the 0BQ index. Such an automatic transmission is essentially one of the varieties of the particularly powerful automatic transmission ZF 6HP32X.
AL-6 family: AL420, AL600, AL651, AL750, AL950.

Disadvantages of the VW AL950 gearbox
- The modification for Phaeton had weak mechatronics and was often replaced under warranty.
- Otherwise, this is a very reliable automatic transmission, but it is installed with particularly powerful engines.
- The torque converter locking clutch wears out quickly and the valve body becomes clogged with dirt.
- Also, wear of the clutch causes vibrations and they break the oil pump bearing.
- The remaining gearbox problems are associated with short-lived bushings or leaks.
