Five and six-speed manual transmissions VW MQ250 with indexes 02R and 02S have been produced since 2003 and are installed on almost all models of the concern with engines up to 250 Nm of torque. The gearbox is intended for front-wheel drive cars with a transverse engine.

Disadvantages of the VW MQ250 gearbox
- This rather noisy manual transmission has a reputation as far from being the most reliable gearbox.
- The weak point of the transmission is the short-lived differential bearings.
- And if you miss replacing them, then the support bearings of the secondary shaft will begin to hum.
- In the most advanced cases, the satellite shaft simply flies off and pierces the gearbox housing.
- Also on specialized forums they often complain about very rapid wear of the switching mechanism.
