Disadvantages of the VW AQ250 gearbox

  • This is a reliable gearbox, but its service life is highly dependent on the cleanliness of the cooling system.
  • Due to a clogged heat exchanger, the automatic transmission has to be rebuilt at 150,000 km.
  • It is also important to change the oil every 60,000 km or wear products will clog the valve body.
  • The torque converter locking clutch is not durable; it wears out after 150,000 km.
  • And if it is not replaced in time, the vibrations will break the oil pump bushing.
  • Then it breaks the bushings of the sun gear, rear cover, and so on.
  • At high mileage, the differential pinion pinion axle often gets stuck.
