Gearbox Volkswagen DQ500

The 7-speed preselective robotic transmission DQ500 or VW DSG7 has been produced in Germany since 2009 and is installed on PQ35 platform models under the symbol 0BH and Transporter minibuses as 0BT. An updated version of the dual wet clutch gearbox for MQB models is known as 0DL.

DSG-7 family: DQ200, DQ381, DQ500, DL382, DL501.

In 2009, Volkswagen introduced a new preselective robotic gearbox with two wet clutches for particularly powerful engines with a torque of 500 Nm. The updated version of this gearbox was strengthened and was combined with engines up to 600 Nm. This robotic transmission is intended for front-wheel or all-wheel drive models and exists in three versions: 0BH for the PQ35 platform, 0DL for the MQB platform, and 0BT for Transporter minibuses.

Disadvantages of the VW DQ500 gearbox

  • The main problem of preselective robotic transmissions with double clutch in an oil bath is the rapid contamination of the solenoids in the mechatronics with clutch wear products. To avoid the rapid appearance of shocks when switching, change the lubricant more often.
  • The second most popular failure is the failure of the electronic control board, and the reason is usually overheating of the gearbox due to long driving with a clogged heat exchanger. Unlike other gearboxes of the concern, this board cannot be repaired and you will have to look for a new one.
  • With aggressive use and especially after overly aggressive engine chip tuning, you can encounter destruction of the differential even at a mileage of less than 50 thousand km. Also on minibuses T5 very often cuts off the differential spline joints.
  • At a mileage of over 200 thousand kilometers, a strong noise from the bearings often appears, while the shafts usually begin to play and break the seats in the gearbox housing. Destruction of the dual-mass flywheel and synchronizer ring is also common.
