Gearbox Aisin AW80-40LS

The Aisin AW80-40LS 4-speed automatic transmission was produced at a Japanese plant from 2000 to 2017 and was installed in models such as the Suzuki Ignis, SX4, Wagon R, Splash, and the similar Opel Agila. In other markets, this transmission is best known as the first-generation Ford Fusion automatic transmission.

Disadvantages of the Aisin AW80-40LS gearbox

  • When paired with engines up to 1.3 liters, the automatic transmission has a fairly decent service life;
  • However, when paired with 1.5 and 1.6 liter engines, this transmission can be problematic;
  • Problems with automatic transmissions begin with critical wear of the linear pressure solenoid;
  • Then, the oil pressure gradually drops, and the clutch packs begin to burn;
  • At high mileage, the oil pump seal often leaks, which is also dangerous for the transmission;
  • Also, due to a weakened locking mechanism, the thrust bearing in the housing can slip;
  • Wear of the Teflon rings in the rear cover is common for all transmissions in this line.
