The Toyota A248F 4-speed automatic transmission was built at the Japanese plant from 2001 to 2009 and was installed on all-wheel drive versions of the Avensis, Caldina, Gaia, Nadia, Noah and Voxy. This gearbox was paired with the widely known 2.0-liter 1AZ-FSE petrol unit.

Disadvantages of the Toyota A248F gearbox
- A known problem of all A-series gearboxes is a broken wire in the solenoid coil;
- Otherwise the automatics transmissions of this family are very reliable and have a long service life;
- At high mileage heavy wear of the torque converter lockup clutch is common;
- This debris then clogs the valve body and the gearbox starts jerking when shifting;
- Next, vibrations destroy the oil pump bushing and oil leaks appear;
- Closer to 250,000 km the rear output shaft bearing can already be badly worn;
- This results in shaft misalignment and destruction of the third planetary gearset.
