The Aisin TR-81SD 8-speed automatic transmission was produced in Japan from 2010 to 2018 and installed in the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and VW Touareg NF, paired with the 3.0 TDi diesel engine. A related transmission was installed in the third-generation Cadillac CTS, designated the TL-80SD.

Disadvantages of the Aisin TR-81SD gearbox
- This is a fairly reliable transmission, and problems only appear at high mileage;
- If the lubricant isn’t updated, the valve body will become clogged after 120,000-150,000 km;
- Then, jolts and vibrations will appear, which can damage the oil pump bushing;
- Keep the automatic transmission’s cooling system clean; it doesn’t tolerate overheating at all.
