The Hyundai A6MF2 or A6F27 6-speed automatic transmission has been produced since 2009 and is installed in many Hyundai models, but is most commonly known from the Creta, ix35, and Santa Fe crossovers. Hybrid versions of the automatic transmission are available under the designations A6MF2H and A6F28H.
A6 family: A6GF1, A6MF1, A6MF2, A6LF1, A6LF2, A6LF3.
In 2009, Hyundai-Kia introduced a line of 6-speed automatic transmissions, including this one. It is available with gasoline engines up to 2.4 liters and small diesels with up to 265 Nm of torque. Its design is a classic hydromechanical automatic transmission with a torque converter, planetary gearset, a set of clutches and brakes, and a solenoid-operated valve body, which is controlled from the cabin by a flexible cable from the gear selector.
When choosing a used automatic transmission, keep in mind that this transmission has been repeatedly upgraded over its production period and is available in a wide range of models and modifications.

Disadvantages of the Hyundai-Kia A6MF2 gearbox
- In the early years, the manufacturer struggled with automatic transmission jolts by releasing new firmware updates, but the most common failure was loosening of the center pinion bolts, which often resulted in transmission failure and replacement under warranty.
- The valve body is sensitive to oil cleanliness, and if the lubricant is changed strictly according to the manual, its channels will quickly become clogged, causing strong jolts and jerks during shifting. Continued use will result in oil starvation and transmission failure.
- Another weak point of the automatic transmission is the differential, which does not tolerate slippage. A crunching noise in the transmission most likely means that the splines in its housing have stripped. The differential isn’t sold new, so it’ll have to be repaired or found at a salvage yard.
- According to service technicians, they often had to replace the solenoid wiring harness, the speed and temperature sensors, and the plastic oil pan, which cracks easily. In the first version of the automatic transmission, the pump was mounted on a bushing, and it would spin when overheated.
