The Hyundai A4BF1 4-speed automatic transmission was produced only from 1995 to 2001 and was installed in front-wheel drive models such as the Lantra J2 and the similar Coupe. This automatic transmission was developed jointly with Mitsubishi and is similar in design to the F4A22.
A4AF/BF Family: A4AF1, A4AF2, A4AF3, A4BF1, A4BF2, A4BF3.

- Hyundai Lantra 2 (RD) in 1995 – 2000.
Disadvantages of the Hyundai-Kia A4BF1 gearbox
- The build quality of automatic transmissions in the early years of production was severely compromised, as were the quality of some components;
- Otherwise, most problems with this automatic transmission are related to rapid wear of the bushings;
- This causes a drop in lubrication pressure, which immediately causes the clutch packs to burn;
- The wear products then clog the valve body channels, causing the transmission to struggle;
- The differential and solenoid wiring are also considered weak points in the transmission.
