The 4-speed automatic transmission Volkswagen 01M has been produced since 1995 and is still used on Chinese cars. And in its time it was installed on almost the entire VAG model range. This transmission served as the basis for a series of budget French automatic transmissions: AD4, AL4 and DP0.

Disadvantages of the VW 01M gearbox
- The gearbox is considered quite reliable and breakdowns begin at high mileage.
- The biggest problems are caused by the wiring of the solenoids, as well as the speed sensors.
- The automatic transmission solenoids themselves become clogged with dirt relatively quickly and fail.
- This automatic transmission is afraid of overheating; at best, all the rubber-coated pistons will melt.
- Do not forget that this transmission uses two types of oil.
