Description
In 2001, a 6-speed automatic transmission under the TF-80SC index debuted on the Volvo V70 station wagon, which was intended for front- or all-wheel drive models with engines up to 450 Nm. In terms of design, this is a simple hydromechanical automatic transmission, built according to the Lepelletier scheme: that is, consisting of a simple planetary gearbox, as well as a dual Ravigno gearbox. This transmission was installed on Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, Volvo, Saab, Opel and Fiat cars, and the TF-81SC modification with its own valve body was installed on Ford, Mazda, Jaguar or Land Rover.
In 2009, an updated version of the TF-80SD appeared, which was intended only for Volvo, and in 2013, a new modification debuted for Peugeot and Citroen with the index TF-82SC.

Service regulations
Oil change is not regulated by the manufacturer, but it is better to renew it every 60,000 km. There are 7 liters of lubricant in the system, but for a partial replacement you will need 3 to 4 liters. It is recommended to use oil with ATF JWS-3324 approval, for example Aisin AW-1 or Toyota WS.
Disadvantages of the Aisin TF-80SC gearbox
Torque Converter
During the first years of production, this gearbox was equipped with a defective torque converter: due to the thin metal of the housing, the damper springs were displaced, and this led to uneven wear of the clutch locking it and sensitive vibrations of the shaft, which broke the oil pump bushing, and in the most advanced cases, its cover.
Hydroblock
This is a reliable and very durable transmission, but it is installed with especially powerful units and therefore the clutch locking the torque converter wears out quite quickly. Change the oil in the gearbox more often, otherwise the valve body and its solenoids will become clogged with dirt.
Heat exchanger
This automatic transmission is equipped with a small heat exchanger, which becomes clogged even before 100,000 km, which leads to frequent overheating and rapid wear of the Teflon sealing rings. Then the pressure in the oil system decreases and the friction clutches in the packages begin to burn.
Other disadvantages
Also, the service quite often changes the brake band and the overrunning clutch bearing, and in order to change the oil filter, you need to completely disassemble the transmission.
The manufacturer declared the resource of the TF-80SC gearbox at 200,000 km, but this transmission goes 300,000 km.
