The Honda S4TA 4-speed automatic transmission was produced at a Japanese plant from 1995 to 1999 and was installed in the first-generation CR-V before the facelift, paired with the 2.0-liter B20B engine. After the model update, it was replaced by an electronically controlled transmission with the MDMA designation.
4-speed automatic transmissions: B7VA, MCJA, MGPA, S4TA, S4XA, SLXA.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Honda CR-V 1 (RD) in 1995 – 1998;
- Honda Orthia 1 (EL) in 1996 – 1999;
- Honda S-MX 1 (RH) in 1996 – 1999;
- Honda Stepwgn 1 (RF) in 1996 – 1999.
Disadvantages of the Honda S4TA gearbox
- If you change the oil and filter every 60,000 km, the automatic transmission will last up to 300,000 km;
- Otherwise, dirty lubricant in the automatic transmission will quickly wear out the solenoids and valve body channels;
- Also, don’t forget to replace the torque converter clutch every 200,000 km;
- Otherwise, its wear products will clog all the oil channels and the transmission will fail;
- Weak points of this transmission include the overrunning clutch and the selector position sensor.
