The Toyota A540E 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled by the concern from 1988 to 2000 and was installed on the very popular Camry model in all its many versions. A separate modification under the symbol A540H is offered for all-wheel drive vehicles.

- Toyota Sienna 1 (XL10) in 1997 – 2000;

- Lexus ES300 2 (XV10) in 1991 – 1994.
Disadvantages of the Toyota A540E gearbox
- The all-wheel drive version of this transmission had problems with reverse gear.
- In all other respects, this automatic transmission is known for its reliability and runs for more than 300,000 km.
- The torque converter clutch wears out, clogging the valve body solenoids.
