Gearbox Toyota A540E

The Toyota A540E 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled by the concern from 1988 to 2000 and was installed on the very popular Camry model in all its many versions. A separate modification under the symbol A540H is offered for all-wheel drive vehicles.

This series includes: A140, A240, A340, A440, A540.

Disadvantages of the Toyota A540E gearbox

  • The all-wheel drive version of this transmission had problems with reverse gear.
  • In all other respects, this automatic transmission is known for its reliability and runs for more than 300,000 km.
  • The torque converter clutch wears out, clogging the valve body solenoids.
