The Toyota A245E 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled in Japan from 1992 to 2002 and was installed on many popular front-wheel drive models such as the Corolla, Carina and Caldina. On Geo and Chevrolet cars this gearbox was fitted under its own index, Aisin AW70-40LE.

Disadvantages of the Toyota A245E gearbox
- The only frequent problem here is a broken wire in the solenoid coil;
- Otherwise this is a very reliable automatic gearbox with a service life of over 300,000 km;
- When paired with the 2.0-liter unit, the torque converter lockup clutch can wear out quickly;
- This debris then clogs the valve body and the gearbox starts jerking when shifting;
- Next, shaft vibrations destroy the oil pump bushing and lubricant leaks appear;
- In the most neglected cases the rear output shaft bearing wears out;
- The shaft then goes out of alignment, which helps destroy the third planetary gearset.
